Dear Motorsport fans and Car enthusiasts,
It has been quite the year! I’d like to start by thanking Larry Barnett for the opportunity to share my race season with you and I’d like to thank you, the reader, for taking the time to follow along!
As we approach the holiday season and with the final F1 race of 2019 behind us, we’re officially in the motorsport off season! I wanted to share the final chapter of my season and fill you in on some exciting 2020 news!
The final race of the Michelin Pilot Challenge season came to a dramatic close in mid October. The week started with the birth of our son Breen and ended with my teammate Michael Lewis and I winning the final race of the season at Road Atlanta and capturing the driver’s championship! Bryan Herta Autosport won the team championship and we narrowly missed the manufactures title for Hyundai by only a single point.
Our Hyundai Veloster N TCR was the car to beat all season. We faced stiff competition from the likes of Audi, Alfa Romeo and Honda but after ten races we were victorious in four and in close contention at all of the other events. All the more impressive was that the Veloster N TCR was in its first year of competition; full credit to Hyundai and Hyundai Motorsport for building a championship winning car! The road going Veloster N, also in its first year, won the prestigious Road & Track Performance Car of the Year award! It has been quite the year for Hyundai!
This past week, my teammates and I attended the Hyundai Motorsport Prize Giving at the factory in Alzenau, Germany. We celebrated with all of the Hyundai champions from across the globe. This event officially closed out our 2019 season and now we look ahead to 2020!
I’m pleased to say that Michael and I will be back in 2020 to defend our championship and work to capture that manufacturer’s title for Hyundai! We expect more competition and perhaps even more manufacturers to enter the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge next season and we can’t wait! The first round of competition will take place Friday January 24th at Daytona International Speedway.
On top of our IMSA schedule, Michael, Harry, Mason and I will be preparing to compete at the ADAC TOTAL 24-Hour Nurburgring Nordschleife in May! The plan is to have all four drivers in one Hyundai Veloster N TCR but in order for us to compete, we must first pass a rigorous licensing process. We look forward to the challenge of tackling “The Green Hell”!
I look forward to bringing you updates in 2020, but in the mean time if you’d like to follow along…
