Automotive Maintenance offers preventative care for all your automotive needs
Maintenance pays, repairs cost.
That is the motto at Automotive Maintenance in Caledon East.
“If you maintain your car it will love you back,” said owner John Tomasone who opened the shop on Airport Road in the village in 1992. “A lot of places focus on repairs but we focus on preventative maintenance so you don’t need repairs.”
The shop offers automotive repairs for all makes and models including computer diagnostic services, fuel injection, tune up, brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, complete alignment, heating and air conditioning, starting and charging systems and tires for all seasons. The shop is authorized to fulfill total vehicle maintenance requirements as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Tomasone was not new to the business when he opened his own shop in the early 90s. His brother was a mechanic and he got a taste for the business early on, pumping gas at Highway 27 and 7 as a teenager. After he became a certified mechanic himself, he started working at his brother’s shop in Maple. It was Tomasone’s uncle who first discovered the property in Caledon East, which at the time was a gas station. Tomasone immediately fell in love with the place.
“It had that ‘ma’ and ‘pa’ look to it,” said Tomasone, adding he started the business selling gas but soon got tired of the price wars and began focusing on the maintenance end of it.
But it was the community that won him over. He and his wife Pina had just gotten married and were looking to put down some roots.
“It’s a small town, a nice community and a great place to start a family,” said Tomasone. “There used to be an Italian bakery across the street. I was sitting there having a cappuccino and I looked over and I could actually see myself here, I saw myself running the place. We sold everything just to buy the place.”
And they never looked back. Twenty-two years later the Tomasone family still lives, works and plays in Caledon East. Tomasone is also involved with the community, volunteering his time to the Caledon East Cares Committee, which raises funds to beautify the village.
“I love this town and I’m really glad I moved here,” Tomasone said. “When I opened locals would come by the shop and drop off eggs and pies. The people here are great. It’s still a great community to live in.”
Today, Automotive Maintenance has two certified technicians on staff, Jordan and Stephen. Tomasone’s father Tony also helps him out as the shuttle driver.
Although his business and the community have changed a lot over the last 22 years, the goal remains the same.
“I try to do a good, honest job,” said John. “I noticed that people don’t look much at the price anymore. They look at the quality of the part that they’re getting and the service. We are a fair shop with reliable, old-school service.”
