Blues Cruise returns to downtown Orangeville
The sound of revving engines and the sight of a lot of highly polished paint and chrome will once again fill the main street of Orangeville when the 2017 Blues Cruise fills Broadway and spills over onto Mill Street.
Around 250 vintage, classic, and modified automobiles are excepted to line the streets during the popular annual show.
The event will be held on Friday, June 2, as part of the Orangeville Blues and Jazz festival which will run from Thursday, June 1, through to Sunday, June 4.
The Blue Cruise is an opportunity to see some of the most unique vehicles from the region, and beyond, that are sometimes driven on nice days but for the most part are kept off the road to maintain their pristine appearance.
During the Blues Cruise however, vintage and classic car owners revel in putting their vehicles on display and visitors love to stroll along the street and admire the vehicles from a bygone era and take in the workmanship that has created a modified hot rod.
“I’ve been going to the Blues and Jazz Festival for years and this is my second year as an organizer,” said MacMaster Buick GMC Business Relations Manager David Murphy. “Together, MacMaster Buick GMC and Orangeville Chrylser, we organize it. The cars will be on display from five o’clock to nine o’clock. They start arriving around 3:30 p.m. and will be lined up along Broadway and Mill Street. It’s open for classic, vintage, and custom cars.”
The event registration booth will be located on Broadway in front of the TD bank. Once registered, car owners can drive to a location on Broadway.
Car parking is on a first come, first serve basis.
You will get a chance to vote on your favourite vehicle by casting a ballot on the car or truck you like the best with the winner of the most voted automobile receiving the Community Choice Award.
There is also a Blues and Jazz Committee award voted by the Committee.
Of course there will be street level entertainment as various bands and artists perform during the show.
It’s a fun event where you can not only see so many vintage and classic cars at one location, you can also speak to many of the owners who usually love to tell you some history behind their car.
The Orangeville Blues Cruise is sponsored by MacMaster Buick GMC, Orangeville Chrysler, and Orangeville Dairy Queen.
