The holiday season is a time for giving and local car dealerships are giving back to the community in a variety of ways.
HJ Pfaff Audi in Newmarket is running a toy drive for children in need this holiday season.
“All employees are encouraged to donate,” said Jon Fraser, general manager of HJ Pfaff Audi. “We also have a pot luck lunch with all proceeds going to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ontario SPCA). We are doing this because Pfaff is all about giving back to the community.”
NewRoads Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC in Newmarket is accepting unwrapped gift donations from customers and staff, as well as selling raffle tickets for a car draw in support of Doane Hospice.
While NewRoads runs a variety of charitable initiatives throughout the year, at Christmastime they hold a toy drive and also contribute to the annual Country Toy Tea event which supports a number of organizations including Blue Door Shelter, Leeder Place Family Shelter, 360 Kids, Women’s Centre of York Region, Sandgate Women’s Shelter and The York Centre for Youth and Families. They also hold annual food drives supporting the Newmarket Food Pantry.
“NewRoads Automotive Group strongly believes that in order for businesses to be strong, communities must be strong,” said Kelly Broome-Plumley, customer relations manager for The NewRoads Automotive Group. “Our company values at all our locations include giving back to the communities they reside.”
Normally Richmond Hill Subaru would support the toy drive effort, but this fall they demolished their building to build a new one and don’t have the facility to handle the donations.
Despite that, Richmond Hill Subaru continued to support Help-Portrait in Newmarket, which they have been supporting for a number of years. Help-Portrait is a collaboration of photographers, hair stylists, make-up artists, and other volunteers that come together to provide the unique experience of a professional photo shoot for the less fortunate in the community. Help-Portrait is simply about ‘giving’ rather than ‘taking’ photographs of individuals and families who may not otherwise have the opportunity.
“It brings families together at this time of year to create a memory,” said Scott Pearl, general manager of Richmond Hill Subaru.
Highland Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac in Aurora participates in many charitable events throughout the year.
“We make it a priority to give back to the community as much as we can,” said Kaitlyn Dupuis, media and customer relations representative at Highland Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac, adding most recently, the dealership participated in the Stache for Southlake fundraiser which helped to raise money for a new cystoscope and to support the research and treatment of men with “below the belt” cancer.
“We also made a monetary donation to The Lions Club of Aurora this holiday season for their annual Christmas drive which helps to provide families in Aurora with President’s Choice gift cards, non-perishable food, toys, gifts and clothing.”
Aurora Hyundai ran a Hyundai Hockey Helpers fundraiser in November this year, which has raised $3,000 for youth hockey in Aurora since the program’s inception in 2012.
Pfaff Volkswagen Newmarket is filling a VW Beetle with toy donations. The toys will be donated to the local Salvation Army in Newmarket.
“It’s a great charity and they do so much for people in need,” said Niki Visser of Pfaff Automotive Partners, adding they will distribute the toys to children who otherwise may not receive anything this holiday season. “This is a time we like to give back and help those in our community.”
