Fundraising for local minor hockey
On Sunday, November 25th, The New Tecumseh Rec Centre in Alliston will be the site for the Drive For A Cause fundraiser hosted by Ernie Dean Chevrolet. A province-wide initiative by General Motors, Drive For A Cause invites GM dealerships to select a charity or cause and host events which showcase their vehicles and generate a donation for each test-drive taken. Ernie Dean Chevrolet has made the TNT Minor Hockey league their cause of choice, helping approximately 1000 kids afford the expensive equipment needed to play. For each test drive taken by the public, Ernie Dean Chevrolet and GM will donate $25 to the league.
“It’s the first time we’ve done a test-drive donation event,” says Sam Williams, Sales Rep with Ernie Dean. “We’ll have the best possible selection that we can get over there, six to eight vehicles to try out. It’ll be all the ones that everyone expects to see – the pickups, Equinox, and Cruze – as well as the Volt and things that people haven’t seen before.”
Ernie Dean has supported the TNT Minor Hockey league in the past, and continues to do so with other fund raising methods; until December, the dealership will donate $1 to the league for each Like that it receives on its Facebook page. The league is helping to promote the Drive For A Cause event to raise the public’s awareness, while the dealership itself is promoting it on its Facebook page and with posters in-house.
Having been family owned and operated in the community for 30 years, Ernie Dean Chevrolet is getting positive client feedback regarding this fundraiser and others they’ve been a part of. “Customers like seeing us involved in the community and supporting the right causes,” Sam says. “We’ve also gotten feedback from the TNT board, and they’re pretty excited about the test-drive event. Being in Canada, hockey’s a big part of life, and equipment is expensive, so this helps more families get involved. That’s a win for everybody.”
Asked if the dealership will do more of this type of fund raiser in the future, Sam is quick to express interest. “We’d consider doing at least one event a year, maybe more,” he says. “There are definitely a lot of worthy charities and causes in the area. It’s just a matter of finding the time to do each one well.”
Sam confirmed that the Drive For A Cause event is happening on Sunday, November 25th no matter what the weather may be like. However, a silver lining on those potential snow clouds: Tim Hortons will be at the fund raiser as well, ensuring that hosts and attendees alike are kept warm with hot beverages. Because really, what could be more Canadian than showing up in cold weather and potential snow in order to help out a kids’ hockey team while sipping your Timmy’s?
