Family business in Newmarket supplies parts and services to auto racers
CSC Racing’s story goes back 40 years when Bill Salter Sr. took over what was then known as Canadian Stock Car Products in Toronto. They were known for their race car chassis building and parts supply, mainly to oval track racers though the occasional off roader or road racer would use their services. Bill’s future son-in-law Ralph de Winter then came on board and learned the business. Eventually daughter Jennifer and son Bill Jr. joined the business, and the three of them, following Bill Sr. retirement, decided to move the business to Newmarket. After 16 years on Harry Walker Pkwy, this past year saw them move to a unit on Gorham St. in Newmarket’s east end .
“It’s not really downsizing” Ralph and Jennifer told me, “It’s more of a re-organizing and streamlining with a lot less overhead” they said. You can still get a race chassis built or custom fabrication of most anything race car related. They will also custom fabricate virtually anything from mild steel as well, just give them the idea and they can make it a reality. There is a full supply of racing safety equipment also. Fire suits, driving shoes and gloves are all on hand. CSC being Canada’s Bell Racing Helmet distributor, gives you the full line of head protection to choose from. Head and neck restraints are also a required safety device in motorsport and Jennifer knows how to fit you correctly to be safe. In fact CSC Racing is the only Canadian shop east of the Rocky Mountains that is authorized to recertify HANS devices.
Anytime you watch a Motorsport event in Canada, whether it’s club level or Nascar, there’s a good chance Ralph and Jennifer had something to do with one or more of those racers needs! Go to: www.cscracing.com
