Barbecued ribs done over charcoal and seasoned with each ribber’s secret sauce may be the main draw at the Orangeville Rotary Ribfest, however there is a lot more going on at this year’s fest.
After you finish a plate of mouth watering barbecued ribs and maybe quaff a cold one in the beer tent, head on over to the Ribfest Car Show to see a full line-up of classic and custom automobiles that will be on display on the grounds at the Alder Street arena.
The Ribfest is now in its ninth year in Orangeville and is becoming more popular each year as not only locals but visitors from out of town arrive to enjoy the event.
This is the fourth year organizer David Murphy will be at the helm of the popular Car Show.
“We’ve had everything from a Lamborghini to classic hot rods,” Murphy said of the vehicles expected to turn out for the event. “We’ve had special edition cars that are quite rare – some they’ve only made a handful of those models. We have car owners that come from all over from as far away as Barrie, Orillia, and last year we a guy come all the way from Sault Ste. Marie with his car.”
Murphy is expecting around 150 cars to be on display by the time everyone arrives and finds their parking spot on the grounds.
Strolling along the rows of cars you are of course going to see a few that you really think are stand-outs.
You can vote your appreciation of your favourite by participating in the Community Choice award by taking note of the number of your preferred vehicle which will be on a display card in the windshield and dropping your ballot in off a the voting station.
Ballots will also be handed out as you enter the event.
Even the ribbers get involved and some cars will be awarded the ‘Ribbers Choice’ award voted by ribbers attending the event.
Visitors to the car show enjoy seeing some remarkably well restored cars and those who are knowledgeable about automobiles, and a lot are, will appreciate when a rare vintage model makes an appearance.
The Car Show is sponsored by MacMaster Buick GMC and Orangeville Chrysler who have been a big part of the auto show scene in Orangeville.
The Orangeville Ribfest will take place over three days on July 20 – 22.
In addition to ribs, there is a midway, vendors, and entertainment on the main stage.
The Car Show will take place on Saturday, July 21, on the field right behind the ribbers barbecues.
