Richmond Hill Subaru opens brand new facility
The new and improved automotive facility opened its doors bright and early on May 12, welcoming the very first customer for a service appointment at 7:30 a.m.
The dealership, owned by Michael Coxon of New Roads Automotive Group, is still conveniently located at 11645 Yonge Street in Richmond Hill, but the old facility was torn down and a new one has been built in its place. The all new, ground-up, 18,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility features a seven-car showroom, a drive-through service department, nine mechanical bays and a comfortable customer lounge with Wi-Fi throughout the building. The dealership specializes in the sale of new and pre-owned vehicles, service and parts. The old facility was built in the 1960s and despite some renovations over the years, was outdated.
“Our customers deserved a much better facility,” said Scott Pearl, general manager of New Roads Richmond Hill Subaru. “We are proud to offer customers a facility for sales and service that meets their expectations.”
Richmond Hill Subaru is also open evenings Monday through Thursday until 10 p.m. for service and parts, which is unique for a car dealership.
“The reason we are open until 10 p.m. is we recognize the need for young families and people with busy schedules to service their cars when they have time,” said Pearl. “It relieves some of the pressure of having to find time during the day.”
The new facility has been in the works for some time. Croxon purchased Richmond Hill Subaru in 2007 and has been working closely with the Town of Richmond Hill since then to get the new facility built. Construction began in July 2014, with the grading, paving and the storm water management pond for the storage compound to house the vehicles. Once the compound was ready and all the vehicles were stored, and the staff began moving to a temporary facility next door. The move was complete by the first week of September and demolition of the old building took place on September 9th.
“It was quite a process we went through to make the change,” said Pearl. “During the time we were in the temporary building, our vehicles were stored 300 metres away behind the construction. In the temporary location we had limited ability to show new vehicles and no room to show used vehicles. We literally had to drive people next door past the construction all winter long to show our inventory, which was an onerous process. Our sales team just rolled up their sleeves and did what was necessary, they were great throughout the whole process.”
The service department was also impacted during the move. The temporary facility only had three service bays to accommodate six technicians. They ran two shifts and were open from 7:30 a.m. to midnight in order to meet the service needs of the customers.
“One of our core values is how we treat our employees” said Pearl. “They did a great job for us during construction and hopefully feel rewarded in the new facility. Our service shop is air conditioned, has new work benches and all the latest equipment has been installed, making their work environment one of the best in the industry.”
Richmond Hill Subaru carries a complete line of Subaru vehicles. In addition to an extensive inventory of new and used vehicles, the dealership offers highly qualified Subaru trained technicians and service advisors who provide exceptional service in a timely manner.
In terms of recognition, the 2015 Subaru Legacy has been awarded the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) Canadian Car of the Year and the 2015 Subaru Outback was chosen as the utility vehicle of the year. Subaru is also the only manufacturer with IIHS Top Safety Picks for all models three years in a row.
“We are one of the highest rated Subaru dealers in Canada,” said Pearl, adding the dealership has received 170 reviews and a 97 per cent recommend rating online at www.dealerrater.ca. “You can go to the Dealer Rater site and read what our customers have to say about our people, products and vehicle service.”
Subaru Canada is also thriving, posting unprecedented volume increases over the last five years.
“We are very proud of Subaru Canada and their commitment to producing high quality vehicles that meet the specific needs of our customers and Canadian driving conditions,” Pearl stated.
