KartSTART For another summer the Aurora Classic & Custom Car Club will be hosting its weekly cruise shows on Sunday evenings. Weather permitting, the car shows will run every Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Canadian Tire parking lot located at 14700 Yonge st. until September 13th.
With each week bringing in dozens of cars, vehicles range from muscle cars to all classic cars.
“I like coming every week because it seems there is always a different selection of cars to see,” said Brian Roberts, an Aurora resident who says he visits the show each week.
Due to weather, the first car show, held on May 31st was canceled.
“It’s a bummer when no cars show up because it is raining,” said Karen Williams. “I understand though. The owners of these cars only want to drive them in perfect conditions.
The shows feature other entertainment to offer other than the cars. Each week consists of a weekly sponsor donated door prize, 50’s to 60’s music that can be heard across the entire Canadian Tire parking lot and an Ice Cream Vendor, so bring your kids along for the ride!
“It’s just a fun way to get out of the house and spend a night with the family,” said Williams. “We get the kids an ice cream cone and we walk around and look at the cars.”
For some, looking at the old cars pull in can bring back classic memories.
“When I look at this car it brings me back to when I was younger,” said Greg Miller, who was looking at a classic dark blue Chevrolet Corvette.
“It reminds me of my friend who use to drive one just like this,” he added.
Not only is the car show about looking at cool cars, but bringing together Aurora residents with a mutual interest.
“I’ve made a couple great friends from attending these shows,” said Roberts. “Because of this show each year a couple of us drive down and go to different car shows across the GTA [Greater Toronto Area] together.
Since the family oriented club’s formation in 2000, the club holds 16 cruise nights a summer. The club supports the town’s events and does not charge admission for these cruise nights.
