Tailgating. It’s one of the most popular pastimes of sports fans the world over. There’s just something right about you and your friends hanging out in the parking lot before a big game, enjoying a few beverages – and a big helping of barbeque – out of the back of your truck. For all its enjoyment, however, tailgating is a lot of work. After all, there’s set-up, clean-up and transporting all the accessories you need to BBQ properly. How sweet would it be if you had a customized truck with an awesome BBQ built right into the bed?
Well, dream no more, my friend. Toyota has a truck you just have to see.
Toyota Canada is conducting a special promotional tour to support of its Tundra pickup truck, targeted at the tailgate lover in us all. The initiative repurposes two Toyota Tundras, transforming their beds into fully functioning barbeques. Each bed incorporates a custom-made grill, a preparation table and a condiment area. The branded vehicles will visit 12 events nationally from August through December.
Partnering with Napoleon – the Barrie-based grill, fireplace and HVAC manufacturing company – two of the unique Toyota Tundra tailgating vehicles were created. Napoleon Group of Companies was founded on a dream that began in 1976 with a small steel fabrication company. That dream became reality and has now grown to include Napoleon fireplaces, grills and even a line of furnaces built in Canada to withstand Canadian winters. Always known for innovation in design, performance and visual appeal, Napoleon proved to be the perfect partner to create the ultimate tailgating accessory. One vehicle will be visiting events in eastern Canada and one will tour the West. Whether just for display or fired up for use, it’s proven to be quite the showstopper wherever it’s headed.
“The Toyota Tundra is known for being up to the task for anything Canadians throw at it, and it has certainly proven to be ideal for this special tailgating vehicle,” said Stephen Beatty, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc., referring to the fact that among the truck’s many strengths is an 8.1-foot bed that can handle a multipurpose setup that includes a grill, prep table and condiment area that Napoleon custom-created.
The 2016 Toyota Tundra is ready to work with impressive towing capacity, choice of 4.6L and 5.7L engines, and Regular, Double Cab, and CrewMax models. Tundra’s Regular Cab Long Bed 5.7L is offered in both 4×2 and 4×4 models. Matched with an 8.1-foot “long box” cargo bed built to handle a 4’x 8’ sheet of plywood, it’ll handle just about anything you throw in it. The Tundra 4×4 SR Double Cab 5.7L is the chosen model for the Napoleon partnership, offering 9.899 lb towing capacity. Plus, accessories you might not expect in a pick-up, including 6.1 Display Audio system with Touchscreen and standard back-up camera.
The built-in BBQ is a Pro 665 Grill, featuring premium stainless steel construction, integrated wood chip smoker tray, illuminated NIGHT LIGHT control knobs and 7 burners. What’s more, it’s even outfitted with Wave Rod Cooking Grids with custom, laser-cut Toyota logos.
The tailgating Tundras have a full list of appearances scheduled. From September through December, there will be a number of additional stops, including Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show in Woodstock, Ontario, the Home Hardware Fall Market in St. Jacobs and finally Construct Canada in Toronto later this Fall.
The Toyota tailgating Tundra really is a one-of-a-kind vehicle and the dream of sports and barbequing fans the world over. Right now, there’s no plans to offer these specialty vehicles to the public. But if people prove hungry enough for the ideas incorporated into these Tundras, you just never know.
