Humberview SHSM Auto Show
Transportation (SHSM) program will be holding their annual Car Show on June 6th. The annual show offers fellow students, teachers and family members an opportunity to show off their custom vehicles. The show also offers SHSM students the chance to organize and present an automotive event and share a bit more about the program with other students and the community as a whole.
The SHSM program, which was implemented at Humberview at the beginning of the 2012 school year, is offered to students beginning in grade 11, allowing them to focus their learning on a specific economic sector of the automotive industry while meeting the requirements to graduate from secondary school.
Students gain sector-recognized certification and career-relevant training. Currently coming to the end of its 2nd year, the program will be graduating about fifteen students in June. This program is unique because they have teamed it up with the schools manufacturing program (formerly known as Metal Shop.
In addition to the annual auto show, students have attended various field trips throughout the year, including visits to Centennial College, MetroLinx, Honda Canada and Mega Speed Car Show. They listen to presentations from guest speakers who offer information which will further enrich the program, such as a Ministry of Labour Inspector presenting on young worker safety in the workplace. The Humberview SHSM program has many automotive partnerships in the community that take their students in for Co-op placements, provide services and supplies and more.
The Annual Humberview SHSM Car Show will take place in the south parking lot at Humberview Secondary School in Bolton on June 6th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the general public. Registration and set up will begin at 9 a.m. For more information on the SHSM Transportation program at Humberview or if you are interested in showing a vehicle, contact Mel Everett, 905 857-0771 ex. 427.
