The Hills are Alive with the sound of engines
For a number of years now, the rolling hills of the Hockley Valley has been a destination point for many weekend drives in sports cars, classic cars and motorcycles. This is usually a lone jaunt from the city with one’s toy or it can be a group cruise of a car or bike club with a lunch stop at one of the popular eateries found throughout the region such as the Hockley General Store. The trek through Hockley Valley will then take you to the Orangeville area and beyond or north to Collingwood, all a beautiful drive with terrific scenery. The automotive vibe in the area has some lineage as well. The village of Hockley at one time was the home to a quarter mile dirt track oval that hosted weekly stock car races, also a sports car hill climb venue was in the area.
It’s obvious this area comes by it’s motoring magnetism honestly. There are many “car nuts” as well, that make this region of Ontario their home as you will often see many sports and classic cars sitting in driveways along the way. There are people who are, or have been involved in all levels and types of Motorsports from club racing to Formula one residing here. It’s a live moving car and bike show on any given weekend while traveling these nicely paved back roads of Mono and Adjala Tosorontio. When I lived in Toronto some 30 odd years ago, I found myself cruising in my sports car up to these parts on its twisty hilly roads for a nice Sunday drive on more than one occasion in the summer so its no doubt I’ve finally settled here. So if you happen to be reading this and need a destination for a day trip drive, check it out on your map and mark it as your destination!
